MOLTON

There is no event without molton. Many positive properties, plus a favourable price, give this stage fabric an exclusive role on stages, theatres and in the event sector.

However, not all stage moltons are the same. The intended use ultimately decides whether you opt for light deco molton, heavy stage molton or elegant satin molton.

WHAT IS MOLTON?

Molton is a woven fabric, as deco molton in plain weave, as stage molton in twill weave and as molton satin in satin weave. It is usually made of 100% cotton, or in some variants of polyester fibres. Apart from satin molton, molton fabrics are roughened on both sides. This contributes significantly to its characteristic properties.

STAGE MOLTON - IRREPLACEABLE IN EVENT TECHNOLOGY

Stage molton, densely woven with a heavy twill weave. As a rule, its weight is at least 300 g/m². In most cases, stage molton is almost opaque, in black it can be described as almost light-proof. The roughened surfaces absorb light and sound.

Various applications at concerts, theatre performances or other events:

- As a stage and side curtain or background covering, stage molton shields from glimpses into backstage areas. 

- Thanks to its sound-absorbing properties, the fabric improves the acoustics at concerts, in the theatre, studio, rehearsal room or exhibition halls.

- As stage molton absorbs incident light, it supports the stage lighting and prevents unwanted reflections. 

- In addition, the heavy fabric is suitable as protection against draughts and cold.

DECO MOLTON - VERSATILE FABRIC FOR CREATIVE PURPOSES

The name indicates it: Deco molton designs. Whether theatre stages, trade fairs and events, sports arenas, walls and ceilings in the catering trade, the fabric is extremely versatile.

In contrast to stage molton with a twill weave, this light molton variant is woven with a plain weave. Its weight (approx. 160 g/m²) makes it easier to handle, for example if you want to cover ceilings at height. As decorative molton reflects less light, it is also suitable as a photo background. Backlit with spotlights, it can be used to create specific moods. Deco molton is sound-absorbent, but it does not reach the values of a heavier stage molton.

SATIN BOLTON - THE FABRIC FOR NOBLE STAGE CURTAINS

Satin molton is the elegant molton fabric variant. This exclusive quality is only roughened on one side. The satin weave gives the untreated other side its unmistakable elegant sheen.

Satin molton expressively combines both sides of the product. On the roughened side, the positive properties of the normal molton fabric score points by absorbing light and sound, while on the other hand, it impresses with its distinguished, silky shine. 

Convincing reasons why satin molton is preferred especially for theatres and other stage curtains.

Tip: In our webshop you will find the product Kalmuck. This material, which is very similar to stage molton, is an extra heavy quality with approx. 500 g/m². This is why Kalmuck is used to advantage, for example, in the production of soundproofing and acoustic curtains.

ATTACHING MOLTON - TIPS FOR FASTENING

When using molton products on ceilings, walls and other objects, there are various attachment and fastening options:

- You attach ready-made molton with eyelets using binding tapes or rubber tensioners.

- Use a crimping tape to create folds in the fabric.

- If wall coverings are to be attached on all sides, Velcro tape is excellent.

- Gaffer tape can be used as a temporary fastening.

- All types of molton can be stapled without any problems.
