Depending on where and for what purpose technical textiles for stage are used, they must meet special requirements. To help you make the right decision, here is a brief overview of different textiles and their properties specifically for curtains.

FROM STAGE CURTAINS TO BLACKOUT - USES OF THEATRE CURTAINS

The magnificent front curtain has been a central component of theatres and opera houses since the 16th century.

In addition, curtains are used in various other places during events.

- Backdrops serve as stage backdrops to cover back walls, for example in large halls.
- Blackout curtains prevent daylight from coming through windows during performances.
- Curtains can also be used for stage decoration or to separate rooms.
- Molton is excellent for separating backstage areas.

A curtain is also part of the basic equipment at concerts or musicals, in cinemas and at many other events. However, you can only achieve optimum results if the fabric and finish match the intended use. That's why you'll find theatre curtains made of a wide variety of textiles at WILHELM WESTHOLT.

By the way: The fact that many theatre curtains are red, is a relic from days gone by: red was the colour of kings! And red is the first colour that is no longer perceived by our eyes in the dark. STAGE FABRICS FOR THEATRE - AN OVERVIEW

The most important fabrics for curtains and stage decoration include the following:

The main distinguishing criteria are weight, fabric width, opacity or transparency and robustness. But whether and how textiles influence acoustics and lighting - by absorbing light and sound, for example - and whether they crease quickly also play a role. An appropriate curtain can help to improve acoustics. In addition, textiles for theatre use must be certificated flame retardant.

Important: If fabrics for theatre use are impregnated with flame retardant, the impregnation must be renewed after washing.

STAGE CURTAINS FOR EVENTS - DIFFERENCES AND TIPS FOR SELECTION

When choosing curtains, two questions are paramount:

- Where do you want to use the curtain?
- What features should it have?

If you are looking for a front curtain, fabrics with a noble look are the best choice. Both stage velvet and satin molton not only look elegant. They are also opaque and absorb light and sound. They thus support good acoustics, prevent light from being reflected and ensure that the audience only sees something on stage when the curtain rises.

For backdrops, you can also use the lighter Dekomolton. It is also suitable for decorations.
